Music Week

We have had Arts in Action for a week. Today we performed for the parents. Thanks to Mrs Sweney, Mrs Frost and visiting artists for your input and well done to all performers!

Poppies

Our poppies are completed and are on display in the school foyer. We show respect to all people affected by war now and in the past.

Alphabet Puzzle

Emily and Cameron did the alphabet puzzle, then Fred helped them sing the Alphabet Song.

Painting Poppies

ANZAC Day will be in the middle of the holidays. Poppies are one of the symbols for ANZAC Day so we have been painting them.

First we had a story about being in a battle in World War One. Then we found lots of images on the Internet. After that we chalked and then painted our poppies. Tomorrow we will add detail with pastels.

Our Day - Friday 11 April

We are feeling tired after all our hard work this term. There are only 4 more school days until the holidays. Will the Easter Bunny visit? Will you go to the dawn ANZAC parade? Will you tidy your bedroom?

SOME THINGS FROM OUR DAY TODAY:

We sang this morning because we are doing a concert next week.

We glued our Te Reo test and photos of our fern paintings into our portfolios. We wrote our thoughts about our art.

Our bird pictures are displayed in the hallway.

Tomorrow some people are going to the Kiwi Flyer movie at 3.30pm. Tony Simpson, the co-writer and director will be there.

Diary Writing

We write in our Learning Diaries each afternoon. It is a calm writing activity to do after the running around and playing we do at lunch time. We take our diaries home each day to share with our adults.

Arts in Action Week

Tomorrow is the start of Arts in Action Week. The theme is music, All Surrounded by Sound.

We are going to watch a performance by two musicians, Hera and Jed.

On Friday and next week we will be learning some songs with Hera and Jed. We are doing a concert for our school and community on Tuesday at 2.15pm.

Another bike trip photo

Here is another photo of some Room 4 students on our big A2O trip ... it's rest time and what a view!

Friday, 4 April 2014

We shared our castle pictures at assembly. Some of the defence words are battlements, slit windows, moat, and drawbridge. We were talking about castles because two groups have been reading Alfred the Curious, a story about a boy saving a castle.

The Stage 5 and 6 maths group solved the problem about how much the new spelling games cost. We had to work out how much 25% off 2 x $10 and 1 x $30 saved. It saved $12.50.

Alps to Ocean Bike Trip

Twizel Area School
Alps to Ocean Bike Trip

Forty-four children from Year 3-6 and 13 adults biked part of the Alps to Ocean bike track on a hot day in March.

The Alps to Ocean is a new bike track that starts at Aoraki Mount Cook and finishes at Oamaru. We biked the part from the eastern side of Lake Pukaki back to Twizel (18km).

Thirteen children chose to get a ride to school from our morning tea place near the dam. Five Year-3 students rode all the way.

Here are some extracts from our recount stories:

“The loose gravel made me feel like I was going to slip off my bike.” Monique
“I was racing faster than lightning.” Sam
“I tried not to panic as I turned a corner. I came off the track. I got off my bike to catch my breath.” Ralph
“We had the Police to help with safety when we crossed the road.” Daniel
“I saw Aoraki Mount Cook. It was awesome.” Zach
“I was so, so hot on the Pukaki Flats. Even though I thought I might get grumpy I just needed to keep on going and do my best.” Joy
“At the start of the ride I felt a tiny bit nervous but at the end I felt more confident.” Fred
“I am proud that I did the bike ride.” Jack
