Sumsmart Week - Water Fun Day and Hat Making

Last week was Sunsmart Week at Twizel Area School. Thanks to our senior students Chelsea and Jessica and their team of helpers for organising such great activities and encouraging us to think about looking after our skin.

Here are some fun photos:

Mirror Maths

Here are some of our class members learning about reflective symmetry using mirrors.

Camp

Room 4 had a great camp last week with lots of learning and lots of fun. We were based at Lindisfarne which is beside the Pareora River and over the hills from Cave. Our main focus was Maori rock art. We visited 3 sites in the limestone farm country of South Canterbury and also the Te Ana Rock Art Centre in Timaru, which was an excellent venue and one to be recommended to families. We built on our prior learning about the art and about the lives of Maori in our regions history, including their trips to the high country. During our camp we also walked to the dam on the Pareora River which is Timaru's water source, visited the old Monavale School and historic St Davids church at Cave for sketching, visited the Timaru Museum, Art Gallery and library, went to the new pool in Timaru, and had lunch at the bay. On Friday the museum teacher visited us at camp for pioneer activities including cooking pikelets on hobo stoves. Thanks to the parents who helped us. When you sign up for camp you sign up for lots of noise and dishes and lots more. Your help is appreciated.
