Today Room 4 went on our bird study trip. We went to the Black Stilt Hide and to the Wairepo Arm of Lake Ruataniwha to see birds. Thanks to Ursula and Eddie who were great teachers and guides.
We are a class of 26 Year 3 and 4 students at Twizel Area School. Twizel is a small town surrounded by tussocks and mountains. We are the closest town to Aoraki Mount Cook.

Athletics Day
Today the Year Three students went to watch some of the Year 4-13 students at athletics. Then we played on the bars. We loved watching everyone doing their best and having fun.
Brandon wrote this in his diary:
"Today was athletics day. We went to watch the athletics. It was the best athletics I have ever seen. The events we watched were sprints and high jump."
Jenna wrote this in her diary:
"Today it was athletics day. It was absolutely incredible. There were sprints races. Before playtime the Year 4 and 5 went off to the athletics. Before lunch people were doing races and other stuff."
Mohua Pictures
Every morning we do some Te Reo and draw a picture of one of the new words we are learning.
We have also started our bird study so in Te Reo we are learning lots of Maori bird names.
Today we learned that Mohua is the Maori name for the Yellowhead which is an endangered forest bird in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The Year 4 and 5 students in our class are doing athletics so these are only the drawings of our Year 3 students. The Year 3 students in Room 4 with their Te Reo books. We have drawn Mohua using images from the Internet, |

Birds Study
We have started our bird study, as part of our science learning, and learning in lots of other areas too.
Today we wrote down what we know about birds and then shared our ideas.
We pretended we were being scientists.
